Education Berkshire Maestros

Berkshire Maestros is a charitable trust providing music education opportunities for children and young people across Berkshire.

Our mission statement ‘teaching music, changing lives’ is at the heart of what we do, inspiring and motivating young people to enjoy making music. Our core work is to provide high quality, comprehensive music education to the widest possible range of children and young people across Berkshire.  In doing so, we offer individual and group tuition to over 14,000 young people in schools and at our five music centres. We also run over 460 ensembles, from beginner to advanced level, covering a broad range of genres.

The Percussion department at Berkshire Maestros has long been regarded as one of the finest of all music services and Hubs in the UK. Our most successful students have gained national exam board recognition, scholarships at leading music colleges and conservatoires and work in the professional world of percussion as performers and teachers.

We attract hundreds of school pupils and adults from local communities for individual and group lessons. Our dedicated team of percussion teachers initiate pupil engagement through Primary school whole class projects, including; samba, tuned percussion and world music.

At the core of student progress lie our music centre bands, orchestras and percussion ensembles. These ensembles provide progressive playing opportunities in five local music centres, with regular performances coached and prepared by percussion specialists. This paves the way for students to audition to join our County groups, in particular; Berkshire Youth Symphony Orchestra and the renowned Berkshire Youth Percussion Ensemble. Both ensembles are nationally recognised as being some of the finest in the country.
