Drumwright – Berkshire young Musicians Trust – Andy Leask

In 1989 Andy Leask was appointed Head of Percussion for CYM in London and from 1992 he was appointed Curricular Head of Percussion for the nationally acclaimed Berkshire Young Musicians Trust and formed Percussion Ensembles in each of the four area music centres to give students the opportunity to rehearse and perform in ensembles with other students of similar ability.

To date, there are nine percussion ensembles and a county Percussion/ Marimba ensemble. Students from the county percussion ensemble also perform percussion on the Berkshire youth Orchestre, Berkshire Youth Wind Orchestra and Berkshire Youth brass band. The county percussion/ marimba ensemble has made several appearances at the Festival Hall and the Royal Albert hall.

The Berkshire Young musicians trust was established in 1982 to safeguard and enhance music education for young people in the Royal county of Berkshire.

Each year several percussion students of the Trust gain entry into Music Colleges around the country to further their musical studies.
